5 Corporate Event Tips in Amsterdam

Last updated on

Amsterdam is a city most famous for its endless canal systems and coffee shops, but there is so much more than that. Once the wealthiest city in the Western world, it served as a massive port city and was also a major financial center. Today, the beautiful houses, unique architecture, and lush gardens make Amsterdam one of the most picturesque cities in Europe. Add to that bicycles, cars, trams, busses, boats, and pretty much every other mode of transportation you’ve ever seen, and you’ve got a unique little system that is constantly on the move. In addition to tourism, there’s also been a rise in corporate events held in Amsterdam. So, we are here to share  some of our tips with you!

1.) CHOOSE THE RIGHT VENUE

Choosing the right space is one of the key components in having a successful corporate event. Luckily, there is more than one perfect venue in Amsterdam. The city is full of history and culture, while the architecture ranges from sleek and modern, to historic row houses along the endless canal systems. Whether you are looking to host an intimate gathering in a boardroom tower overlooking the city or a large conference not too far from the airport, there are tons of venues in Amsterdam that are sure to impress your clients.

2.) ORGANISE ENGAGING ACTIVITIES

There are heaps of corporate activities in Amsterdam, but the difficult part is choosing which ones are right for you and your team. An important part of hosting corporate events is to get your employees on the same page, so you’ll want to plan some team building activities. Amsterdam is an extremely active city, so your options are endless, both indoors and outdoors. Activities range from escape rooms to game shows, or you could even organise a city-wide scavenger hunt. The important thing to remember is that you want to choose an activity that suits the all of the different personalities of all your employees and guests.

3. ORGANISE ACOMMODATION IN ADVANCE

If you are planning on hosting a corporate event in Amsterdam with guests coming from out of town, you’ll want to think about the availability of accommodation. Because Amsterdam is such a popular city, hotels and flats tend to book up quite quickly. Waiting until the last minute will almost guarantee you a hotel on the outskirts of the city, and it will most likely be two or three times the price. Try and get your final headcount months in advance; you may even be able to reserve a block of rooms at the same location.

4. INCLUDE SOME LEISURE TIME

Since Amsterdam is such an exciting city, you’ll want to set aside some time for your team to enjoy it. Plan for some leisure time that will allow everyone to get out and discover the culture and all the city has to offer. The city is rich in history, and there are so many amazing museums to visit. You could help organise your employees into groups or even let them go off and discover the city solo. Insider’s tip: if you want to visit the Anne Frank House, make sure to reserve your ticket online as they can sell out months in advance, especially during the busy summer tourist season.

5. USE AN EVENT PLANNER

Trying to organise a corporate event is pretty stressful, whether it’s your first event or your hundredth. Corporate events in Amsterdam require a lot of planning in advance. Choosing the venue, the activities, sorting the accommodation, and generally just making sure your guests are happy is a pretty complicated process, especially if you are also running your business full-time. Event planners can help you to relieve some of that stress, as they are taking care of all the little details for you. This leaves you more time to focus on your company, your employees, and all the other details that are important to your business.
